The Jesters Band

IN MEMORY OF CLEON NALLEY

J. Cleon Nalley, 63, died July 12, 2007 in Gainesville, Georgia from a sudden illness. Cleon was a retired attorney and musician. He was a 1962 graduate of Gainesville High School and a graduate from Lagrange College with a bachelor’s degree, a graduate of the University of Georgia in physical education and The John Marshall Law School.

Cleon joined The Jesters in 1968 and performed with the band until 2004. He was a bass guitarist and a talented musician also performing lead and background vocals. Cleon was like a leader in the band from the beginning, recalls Billy Young, a longtime member. “He was like a big brother, since he was 5 years older than most of us in the band”. He had completed his college education and lent a lot of support to the rest of us, who were still struggling freshmen in college. He balanced the life of a musician and graduate college student very well and personally gave me a lot of inspiration to achieve my educational goals.

Cleon was a large part of the development of The Jesters into the group it is today, and it would not have enjoyed the success it has without the important role Cleon played.

The Jesters mourn his passing and are forever grateful for his contributions to the band.

Remembrances of Cleon:

Cleon was one of my closest friends. We shared a lot of music and laughter over the years, in the Jesters and also in another band. I will miss him terribly.

- Mike Haynes, Jesters keyboardist and background vocalist
